Happy holidays! I hope, at bare minimum, you’re warm, well fed, healthy, happy and getting a real proper break. Echoing , my heart is with Christian Palestinians in Bethlehem who don’t have the safety or peace to celebrate.
If you are in Toronto, I’d love to invite you to our first ever event in the city.
Brown Bodies has partnered with Toronto IRL — the place to discover cool events in the city — for a cosy, chai fuelled evening exploring love, sex, and identity within the South Asian diaspora.
I’m very excited that we’ll be joined by special guest, Sunthar V — a Toronto-born, Tamil, and openly queer comedian. I’ll be interviewing them about what love and sex meant to them growing up, the intersection of being Tamil and queer, and how they use comedy as a tool for having meaningful conversations. Therapist Sonam Singh will be joining us for the second half of our chat to help us better explore topics that come up. And keeping us on track all evening will be our MC queen, Rabia Sohail, founder of Toronto IRL.
You can find the full agenda below.
📅 Date: Monday, 6th January
🕒 Time: Doors open at 7:30 PM
📍 Location: 122 John St, Toronto, ON M5V 2E3
💰 Cost: $20 CAD (free for subscribers)
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Medical Aid Palestine.
Spaces are limited, so grab your tickets early!
Toronto is one of my favourite cities and a place I’ve had the joy of spending a lot of time over the last few years. Interestingly, it’s one of the main cities Brown Bodies readers come from too. So, what better place to kick off Brown Bodies 2025?
I’m incredibly nervous to do this in another city and country. Like will people turn up!? Tune in in a couple of weeks time to see if I’m crying alone in a gorgeous space. But more importantly, I’m super excited: to meet people, for Sunthar V, to hear Rabia speak, to bring in a therapist’s voice to the panel experience and, obvs, for chai!
I hope to see you there and, as always, thank you for your support! 🧡
